Twilight Talk: Modern Methods of Construction and SMEs – watch it here for free

Submitted by birgit on Tue, 01/18/2022 – 14:38

There’s an image of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) taking place on clinical production lines in distant factories, but offsite construction is a growing industry that can flourish in smaller settings too.

Since SMEs form a huge proportion of the construction workforce, it makes sense to enhance the skills of this sector to take part in opportunities to build offsite for efficiency, lower labour costs and shorter programme timescales. And training up SME contractors in the West of England region under WECA’s Workforce for the Future is just what the collaboration between Bristol Housing Festival, Building Growth South West and MOBIE is planning to do.

Speakers from the trio of organisations featured at The Green Register’s latest Twilight Talk to explain the opportunities of the expanding MMC sector and how SMEs can benefit from the free training on offer. There’s further information on the programme and you can view a free recording of our event here

Do register for our next free Twilight Talk event: Clay Blocks: Speedy Building with Low-Carbon Materials taking place on Monday 14 February, where we’ll discuss designing and building with clay blocks – a low-carbon alternative to concrete that can save time and is becoming the material of choice on many sites. We’ll hear the perspectives of architect, Jenny Harborne of IMAGO and builder, Dan Wakefield of Greenacre Building, who will share their insights on clay block projects.

There’s lots more on our events page too, including a three-part series on Ventilation and the next in our Real-life Retrofit series of events, where we peek inside projects with the teams and clients to gain the truth behind retrofits happening in the real world!
