Passivhaus in Practice – Online

Event Details

Registration is closed for this event
This new 2-hour live online session will introduce Passivhaus principles, why we need to consider using them, what the benefits are for occupants, as well as explaining the key areas for designing a Passivhaus.

Join experienced Passivhaus Consultant and trainer Eric Fewster of ColdProof, as he outlines:

  • The bigger picture: why we need to bother with Passivhaus vs business as usual (in relation to achieving actual net zero)
  • What Passivhaus is and isn’t: busting some myths
  • Passivhaus design principles: a bit more detailed overview of what the key areas are for designing a Passivhaus
  • Passivhaus benefits: what are the different advantages of building to this standard

There will be time throughout the session for Eric to answer your questions on the topic.

ARB and RIBA Mandatory CPD Requirements

As of January 2024, all architects on the UK Register are required by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) to record and confirm participation in CPD to maintain registration. ARB’s CPD scheme is activity-based and is focused on learning outcomes. You can find out more about ARB’s CPD requirements here.

About the speaker

Eric Fewster, ColdProof

Eric is a highly experienced and committed Passivhaus Consultant and trainer, who also developed and delivers the Passivhaus Tradesperson course - this gives him an incredibly useful insight into the practical delivery of Passivhaus on site as well as the principles and design methods.

As a Certified Passivhaus Consultant at ColdProof, Eric specialises in retrofit master planning and training for construction professionals. Master planning for retrofit projects involves detailed baseline energy analysis using Passive House methodology (PHPP) and thermal bridge modelling, followed by an action plan of improvements that enables individual homeowners to plan towards specific space heating demand targets. The plan is not only about the energy analysis that we do ourselves, but also involves coordinating with other specialists as needed to progress the planning (e.g. for MVHR design, hot water / heating / renewables design, structural analysis, window & door schedules, and moisture modelling).

Eric trains contractors and architects in Passivhaus and low-energy building techniques for retrofit and new build. This takes place both in person and online as part of Coaction, a group of trainers running the Passivhaus Tradesperson and Passivhaus Designer courses. They also deliver one-on-one retrofit training and mentoring, as well as on-site training on request.
