Ecological Building Systems has launched a new online System Calculator, developed exclusively for its range of wall, roof, floor and loft systems, providing architects, building professionals, contractors and self-builders with a faster and more accessible way to explore complete building system options.
Early-stage project planning can involve considerable work before a final specification is developed. Comparing different build-ups, estimating material quantities, assessing thermal performance and understanding costs can require multiple calculations and technical discussions.
The new System Calculator brings these elements together in one online tool.
Rather than calculating individual products in isolation, users answer a series of straightforward questions about their project. The calculator then generates a complete system based on those requirements, identifying the required products alongside estimated material quantities and costs, and an achievable U-value.
Importantly, users can change their inputs and compare different configurations, allowing them to see how choices such as insulation thickness, installation method or system configuration affect the outcome. Calculations can also be saved under individual project names and revisited as a project progresses.
The development reflects Ecological Building Systems’ wider whole-system approach to building performance: considering how materials work together as part of a complete build-up rather than treating individual products in isolation.

Instead, the calculator acts as a bridge between early project exploration and technical consultation.”
At launch, calculators are available for a range of Ecological Building Systems’ retrofit solutions, including Retro EcoWall, Retro EcoWall A1, Diathonite, Retro EcoFloor and Retro EcoLoft. System calculators for the Passive EcoWall and Passive EcoRoof new-build systems will soon follow.
