June 2026 marked two years of our ABBE-accredited qualification: Retrofit Skills. In that time, we’ve:
Through training, events and outreach activities, The Green Register has provided awareness, training and practical skills to nearly 2000 individuals and businesses in the region. We’ve supported learners to access new jobs in the sector upon qualification, and helped businesses to upskill their workforce.
Specific skills acquired by learners have included increased knowledge on building physics, airtightness, moisture movement and insulation in buildings. Additionally, a greater understanding of legislation, grants, low-carbon heating systems, solar technologies and ventilation technologies has been achieved by all learners on the Retrofit Skills course. We’re also proud to have supported further learning for students through free places on some of our other CPD training events.
What have students said about the training?
I enjoyed the practical, hands-on approach to learning retrofit principles and assessments. The course struck a great balance between technical theory and real-world application.
What I found most valuable was learning about heat pump technology, understanding building fabric performance, and moisture management in retrofit projects. The foundation in retrofit principles prepared me to understand project cases and tackle actual retrofit projects with confidence.
The quality of teaching was very good. The instructors were knowledgeable and experienced in the field, which made the learning feel relevant and practical. They were always approachable and willing to answer questions or clarify complex concepts.
The support throughout the course was responsive and helpful, whether it was technical questions about the material or guidance on assessments. The course materials were well-structured and easy to follow.
