About the session
Biodiversity Net Gain is an approach to development that aims to leave biodiversity in a measurably better state than before development. Since February 2024, most developments have been required to deliver a minimum 10% biodiversity net gain,
secured for at least 30 years.
This session will provide an overview of the current legislative and policy framework, explain how biodiversity is measured, and outline the key considerations for achieving compliance.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the current BNG planning policy and legislative framework
- Understand the differences between the statutory and small site metrics
- Learn how biodiversity is measured using biodiversity metrics
- Understand the principles of onsite, offsite and statutory credit delivery
- Understand how BNG considerations can be incorporated into project design and planning strategies
- Review any published updates or proposed changes to BNG requirements available at the time of the training
Who is the session for:
- Anyone involved in projects requiring BNG assessment, whether using the statutory or small site metric
- Those wanting to understand BNG policy, metric principles, compensation options and compliance requirements
