Twilight Talks
The Green Register's early evening talks supported by Ecomerchant: together promoting ethical, healthy sustainable building materials
The Green Register has proudly launched a new series of events. On the second Monday of each month, we’ll be running Twilight Talks - a relaxed and informal string of events on sustainable building matters to complement our regular training topics. Each one-hour event will be FREE of charge and feature short talks from one or more speakers. With Q&A and discussion sessions throughout, everyone is invited to be part of the conversation. We’ll be holding Twilight talks at 5-6pm, in the sweet spot between work and dinner – so join us to nourish the mind before replenishing the body!
Natural Building Materials and our 2050 Carbon Targets: the huge contribution they can make to achieving low carbon, healthier and energy efficient housing
It is common knowledge that we have to rapidly increase the number of homes we retrofit if we have any chance of achieving our zero carbon targets by mid century.
Much of the focus is naturally on reducing energy consumption but we also need to address the fact that so many of the standard building products we regularly specify are harmful to both the environment and the occupants of buildings.
There is a perception that compromises have to be made when using natural building materials such as increased costs and construction time but this is not necessarily the case and there are many benefits to avoiding using damaging conventional materials.
Our speaker, Thomas Robinson (Managing Director) from Adaptavate will make the case for using natural building materials including:
- The importance of a healthy building working in harmony with those who live and work in it
- Why going natural offers the greatest value when making your material choices
- Natural doesn't necessarily mean traditional! Modernised natural materials for use in 21st Century construction
- Mainstream adoption of natural materials on a vast scale needed to hit carbon (and health) targets
Agenda
- 5 - 5.45pm: Presentations
- 5.45 - 6.15pm: Q&A, Discussion, Networking
Speakers
Thomas Robinson
Tom began his working life as an on-site builder and plasterer before studying for a Masters in Sustainable Architecture at the Centre for Alternative Technology. It was here that Tom developed what is now known as ‘Breathboard’ and from this he was encouraged to apply for an entrepreneur competition, winning him a place on the Climate Kic accelerator programme at Imperial Collage London. These experiences gave Tom the tools to go from on-site builder to company builder, and Adaptavate was born.
Since then, Tom has won a number of entrepreneurship awards throughout Europe and has built Adaptavate into a successful business run by a game-changing team of talented individuals. As the founder, Tom’s focus is on growing the business and cementing key strategic partnerships that strengthen Adaptavate’s ambitious strategy of developing the low carbon building materials of the future for the global market.
Twilight Talks are supported by Ecomerchant.
