The Future Homes Standard: What You Need to Know – A Strategic Roadmap for Zero-Carbon Ready Homes and Compliance (Online)

Event Details

Join us for a 2-hour live online training session with experienced building consultant Jack Allen, who will guide you through the new Future Homes Standard and changes to the Building Regulations and what you need to do to prepare.

About the event

The publication of the Future Homes Standard (FHS) marks a definitive leap toward a zero-carbon future, establishing a new benchmark for low-carbon, future-proofed homes. With the regulations coming into effect on the 24th of March 2027, the industry must prepare for the end of fossil fuel heating and navigate complex new compliance methodologies.

Arriving at a time of significant economic challenge, this session will help architects, contractors and developers find a way to deliver these "future-ready" homes without stalling supply.

Why Attend?

  • Audit your compliance roadmap: Gain clarity on the final FHS mandate, including the removal of gas boilers, new functional requirements for on-site renewable electricity (typically 40% of ground floor area in solar PV) and new homeowner handover requirements.
  • Master the Home Energy Model (HEM): Understand the fundamental shift from SAP's basic compliance checklist to HEM's advanced, physics-based simulation. We will explore the new granular data requirements – including half-hourly calculation intervals and local weather files – and what this means for standard house types across different regions.
  • Map the transition timeline: Learn how to navigate the operational move towards the 24th of March 2027 implementation date. This includes understanding the 12-month transition period, the interim use of SAP 10.3 and the eventual 24-month dual-run of the Home Energy Model (HEM).
  • Evaluate design and technology shifts: Assess the strategic implementation of heat pumps and 4th generation heat networks. Understand how new configuration-based U-value calculations may drive the need for triple glazing.
  • Prepare for EPC Reforms: Understand the government's plans for late 2027 to shift Energy Performance Certificates away from single A-G ratings. Learn how the new multiple-metric system (Fabric, Heat, Smart and Cost) will impact property valuations and project handovers.
  • Bridge the viability gap: Discover practical strategies to balance increased build costs with economic delivery, leveraging the insight that existing high- fabric designs may only require slight solar uplifts to pass the new standards.
  • Strengthen supply chain resilience: Identify current delivery risks and learn how to collaborate across the supply chain to ensure consistent, viable project output in a declining market.
