Whilst large-scale projects often receive the spotlight in discussions about sustainability, small-scale projects can also contribute significantly to reducing embodied carbon.
Join us for this new 2-hour live online session with trainer Scott Boote, an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer who specialises in the pioneering use of low-carbon structural materials.
Scott will highlight 'quick wins' - simple yet effective changes that designers can implement in their structures to decrease embodied carbon, even when this isn’t a key project driver, and there is little or no available time for carbon calculations and options assessments.
In much the same way that swapping an incandescent light bulb for an LED fitting will reduce operational carbon, there are often simple low-effort changes that can be made to help reduce embodied carbon too.
ARB and RIBA Mandatory CPD Requirements
As of January 2024, all architects on the UK Register are required by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) to record and confirm participation in CPD to maintain registration. ARB’s CPD scheme is activity-based and is focused on learning outcomes. You can find out more about ARB’s CPD requirements here.
This course relates to environmental sustainability, which is one of the mandatory topics for the 2025 ARB scheme.
View or download this checklist which shows in more detail how attendance on this course can help you meet these requirements.
About the trainer
Scott Boote CEng BEng (Hons) MIStructE, Agnos Studio
As a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 20 years professional experience, Scott always strives to shape a more sustainable future in the construction industry. His passion lies in architecturally led structures, where he thrives on collaborating closely with design teams to create innovative, low-carbon solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional.
Specialising in the use of low-carbon materials, Scott has pioneered the use of structural stone, rammed earth, and timber-concrete composites in modern construction. With over 60 completed projects in structural stone - ranging from plain to post-tensioned – Scots is one of the few engineers globally with this level of expertise. This work was recognised with an IStructE Award in 2016.
