Lowie Bricks are the result of a research and development programme launched in 2019 to create a sustainable, cost effective alternative to traditional facing bricks. Through extensive material innovation and testing, Lowie has achieved a product that retains the aesthetic quality and durability of clay-fired bricks while significantly reducing embodied carbon emissions.
In this Twilight Talk, Lawrence Glennon from Lowie Bricks provided an overview of the whole life of a Lowie brick; from extraction of raw materials, vibro-press production, functional lifetime, end of life uses and compliance with re-use and recycling policies. Lawrence also explored some of the preconceptions around sustainable building products, their sustainability credentials, aesthetic considerations and affordability.
