The Green Register's early evening talks supported by Ecomerchant: together promoting ethical, healthy sustainable building materials.

On the second Monday of each month The Green Register brings you our Twilight Talks - a relaxed and informal string of events on sustainable building matters to complement our regular training topics.

Each one-hour event is FREE of charge and features short talks from one or more speakers. With Q&A and discussion sessions throughout, everyone is invited to be part of the conversation. We hold Twilight talks at 5-6pm, in the sweet spot between work and dinner – so join us to nourish the mind before replenishing the body!

Lowie Bricks, The Sustainable Brick Revolution! 

Lowie bricks are the result of a research and development programme launched in 2019 to create a sustainable, cost effective alternative to traditional facing bricks. Through extensive material innovation and testing, Lowie has achieved a product that retains the aesthetic quality and durability of clay-fired bricks while significantly reducing embodied carbon emissions.

Representing a step change in manufacturing, Lowie bricks offer a low carbon, scalable solution without compromising on performance, safety, or authenticity - bringing together sustainability, affordability, and design integrity for the built environment for all.

We’ll provide an overview of the whole life of a Lowie brick; from extraction of raw materials, vibro-press production, functional lifetime, end of life uses and compliance with re-use and recycling policies.

We will also explore some of the preconceptions around sustainable building products, their sustainability credentials, aesthetic considerations and affordability.

Overcoming resistance to sustainable building materials can be difficult! We want to share our experience and learn about the challenges other organisations and individuals are facing. We’d love to hear about other innovations and invite discussion around opportunities for collaboration, and how we can support each other in the drive towards a sustainable construction industry.

About the Speakers

Lawrence Glennon - Lowie Bricks

Lawrence began working in the brick industry 12 years ago, initially as a logistics manager before moving into specifications. He gained first-hand experience of the enormous burden construction places on the climate, and the complex difficulties of decarbonisation. Promoting Lowie bricks since their launch in the UK in 2024, Lawrence was incredibly grateful when the opportunity came along to dedicate his career to reducing embodied carbon in facing brickwork.
