Event information
In this talk Green Register members Greenheart will be joined by some of their clients to describe how they have realised highly sustainable homes in the South-West, delivering energy efficiency and build quality on tight budgets, and how those houses have performed for their owners.
They will identify common themes across a number of projects that use their experience of timber frame construction and design to achieve results often associated with more complex and costly solutions.
Speakers Richard Hatfield - Construction Manager, and Henry Duncan - Project Designer, will outline their approach to design and build contracts, describing key areas such as team communication, transparency with the client, and regular cost reviews, and how their design review process seeks efficiencies to unlock projects.
Richard and Henry will also describe how engaging with the construction process on challenging sites can unlock further savings.
About the Case Studies Series
This session forms part of our new TGR Community Case Studies Series. The Green Register is proud to present some of our members’ fantastic work as part of this series of 2-hour live online sessions. We’ll provide an insight into a range of different projects from a sustainability angle. Join us for our November installment 'It Is Possible! How Regenerative Community Cohousing Became A Reality' on 13th November.
ARB and RIBA Mandatory CPD Requirements
As of January 2024, all architects on the UK Register are required by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) to record and confirm participation in CPD to maintain registration. ARB’s CPD scheme is activity-based and is focused on learning outcomes. You can find out more about ARB’s CPD requirements here.
View or download this checklist which shows in more detail how attendance on this course can help you meet these requirements.
About the speakers
Richard Hatfield, MSc MRes
Twenty years of Managing Greenheart Construction has given Richard a wealth of experience in the green building sector. Prior to that Richard’s background was in Carpentry, building his own timber framed house, civil engineering and environmental consultancy. He has a masters in Built environment research from Leeds University and has always been passionate advocate of being part of the solution to climate change.
Henry Duncan
Henry is a Carpenter turned designer, Passivhaus consultant and co-director of Greenheart. With a degree in 3D design from the University of Brighton, and a background in traditional oak framing, Henry approaches design challenges from a construction perspective. Aesthetics, form, texture, light and space are pillars of good architectural design, but worthless if the building can’t be built in a practical and cost-effective way and stand the test of time.
Greenheart specialises in new build passivhaus using low carbon materials. They emphasise the importance of team work to ensure all parties from clients to labourers are fully on board with what they are trying to achieve, and the process is positive, inclusive and enjoyable for all.
