A practical look at the realities of air-tightness, cold bridging, MVHR, timber frame and practical issues around Passivhaus.

About the visit

Join Green Register members Greenheart Sustainable Construction for a practical look at the realities of air-tightness, cold bridging, MVHR and timber frame. Greenheart will give an overview of the project and why some aesthetic/budget and design decisions meant that Passivhaus certification was not cost effective.

About the project

Address: Priory Garden, Bathwick Hill, Bath, BA2 6LA
Construction: Greenheart Sustainable Construction, Bristol
Architects: PAD design, Bristol

  • The project is a new build 4 bedroom house, built to passive guidelines.
  • Essentially super-insulated timber frame, with the back of the house built in masonry.
  • A very difficult site to access with the building cut into the slope, with significant piling/tanking work to retain the land above.
  • The ground floor external walls are finished in Cotswold stone & the upper floor clad in Siberian larch.
  • The roof is finished in Sedum on insulated single-ply warm roof.
  • All windows are triple glazed,- composite timber internal & aluminium clad external face with a nominal U value of 0.8.
