The construction industry is second only to the packaging industry as the UK’s biggest producer of plastic waste, generating approximately 50,000 tonnes of plastic packaging waste each year. This waste ends up in landfill, in the oceans and exported abroad to be processed by other countries.

But we really need to address this issue so that the building industry can play its part to reduce plastic waste.

Changing Streams is a not-for-profit organisation working with colleagues in the built environment, public sector and innovators in academic research to reduce our dependency on plastic in the built environment, both in new components and materials and in the destination of waste.

Brendon Kenny, head of engagement at Changing Streams will describe the goals of the programme and how attendees can get involved to help with this important part of the green agenda for the benefit of future generations. He will be joined by speakers Neal Maxwell, founder of Changing Streams and Wendy Jones, University of Liverpool.
