Bite-Size Session: PassivHaus design from a structural engineer’s perspective: how to get the best out of your engineer! – Bristol

Registration is closed for this event

If you want a MVHR system for a PassivHaus, you’ll approach a PassivHaus Certified M&E consultant.

When embarking on a low-energy/low-carbon project, clients will look for an architect with relevant experience.

So it stands to reason that we would also want structural engineers with relevant experience working on our low-carbon and low-energy building projects.

This talk will follow two strands:

  • A review of basic structural design principles and materials, looking at the specific challenges in the design of structures for PassviHaus and low-energy/low-carbon buildings.
We will get hands-on, building simple structural models and observing their behaviour under different loading conditions.

  • Getting the most out of YOUR structural engineer!
A jaunt into how structural engineers think, with a focus on what background the engineering education system gives into ‘sustainable design’ and what the biggest concerns your structural engineer will have throughout the course of your project.

This talk is aimed at architects, clients, builders, and basically anyone who ‘isn’t' a structural engineer.

So come with your questions, queries, theories and complaints, and leave with more knowledge of this elusive profession and strategies on how to get the best out of YOUR structural engineer.
