This session, part of our Futureproof series for builders / contractors, is designed to outline the basic principles and best practice when using Solid Wall Insulation (SWI) in retrofit projects, with trainers Michael Huth of Natural Building Technologies and Nick Lloyd of Urbane Eco Ltd.
About the session
With so much of our existing housing stock performing poorly, we need to rapidly improve insulation levels in solid walled properties.
But should we be internally or externally insulating walls and what materials should be used to avoid condensation and mould occurring?
This training session will set out the building physics around breathable materials and interstitial condensation in a clear and straightforward way. The main problems will be outlined before setting out best practice healthy building solutions to solid wall insulation, followed by a practical demonstration of some of wood fibre products to use to avoid the risks of moisture damage in retrofits.
Trainers Michael Huth of Natural Building Technologies (Green Register partners) and Nick Lloyd, director of Urbane Eco Ltd (Green Register members) have an enormous amount of experience in this field and will share their expertise with delegates in this theory-plus-practice session.
The training will take place on site, the project features EWI to side and back elevations using 100mm Pavatex Isolair.
About the Futureproof training series
All Futureproof builder trainers (our heroes) are required to attend attend a compulsory two-hour course, Introduction to Sustainable Building, followed by a minimum of four other training modules in order to become Futureproof Associate Builders, going on to offer on-site training.
If you are a builder / contractor and are interested in Futureproof training please get in touch for more information: mail@greenregister.org.uk
