*SOLD OUT * Bite-Size Session: The power of green infrastructure & healthy space : Bristol’s path to success – Bristol

Registration is closed for this event
Join expert speakers from Eight Associates to learn about the growth of green infrastructure in Bristol.
  • Bristol is a renowned green city…but what are the challenges and opportunities when accommodating development growth?
  • Can local policy and sustainable regeneration result in a truly healthier urban environment to retain this accolade and ensure a continued pathway to success?

Joanna Peacock (associate) and Rachel Crookes (ecologist) both at at eight associates will present a fascinating talk on how green infrastructure, biodiversity enhancement and healthy spaces are a powerful combination that results in multiple physical, social and environmental benefits, including better air quality, improved access to nature, flood risk management and healthy buildings.

The session will look in detail at the economical, social and environmental benefits of green infrastructure from small to large scale features. Bristol's policies on the implementation of green infrastructure are also discussed, along with best practice case studies and ideas that could maintain Bristol's reputation as one of the UK's greenest cities.

The Green Register and eight associates have worked together for many years to promote the benefits of robust ecological assessments, sustainable masterplanning and green infrastructure.

About the speakers

Rachel Crookes is an ecologist at Eight Associates, primarily carrying out ecological services to support planning applications and BREEAM assessments. She undertakes a range of ecological surveys, from Phase 1 habitat surveys to produce Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, to protected species surveys such as bats, birds, reptiles, badgers and great crested newts. Her surveys take her to a variety of urban and rural locations across the country, where Rachel acts as an ecological clerk of works on construction sites, educating contractors on best practice when encountering wildlife on site through toolbox talks, and carrying out checks to ensure no protected species are harmed during works. Rachel often delivers CPDs to design teams on incorporating biodiversity within their projects and works closely with them to ensure biodiversity is maintained or enhanced across a range of commercial and residential sites.

Joanna Peacock is an Associate at Eight Associates, consulting on a variety of work related to sustainability concepts and high performance building design. She specialises in the provision of environmental assessments on both large and small-scale projects, being a licensed BREEAM Communities Assessor, LEED Accredited Professional, WELL Accredited Professional and NCI trained Charrette facilitator. She is Eight Associates’ specialist in communities, place-making and sustainability at the masterplanning stage. She also focuses on high level sustainability strategy projects and working with global organisations to achieve their firm-wide sustainability objectives. Joanna frequently works with our international clients, at a corporate level and multi-country level.
