The Green Register and AECB CarbonLite are pleased to be working together to provide four half-day technical sessions in Bristol on the Passivhaus principles.

Although the full Passivhaus training is a fantastic way to gain an in depth understanding of all aspects of Passivhaus design, some construction professionals may not have the time or resources to be able to attend the typical Passivhaus two week course.

These afternoon sessions offer insight into all the main principles i.e. what makes a good low energy, comfortable building based on the Passivhaus standard. The training is ideal for architects and other design professionals as the focus in these courses is on design principles.

Each of the four sessions will be run by experts in the field:

Event Four: Project workshop and crit session, Nick Grant & Lucy Pedler

This workshop and crit session allows delegates to bring their own building project to discuss with the trainers. It is an opportunity to discuss specific issues related to others’ projects in a group environment with experienced practitioners.

About the speakers:

Nick Grant is the Principal of Elemental Solutions, a sustainable building consultant with a lifelong passion for doing more with less. His Passivhaus projects include four schools, an archive and numerous housing projects. He is a keen theoretician but also a practical engineer and self builder. He is a Trustee of the AECB and Technical Director of the Passivhaus Trust.

Lucy Pedler is an architect with 32 years of professional experience in the UK and USA and has particular expertise in sustainable building practices. Lucy created The Green Register in 2000, now a nation-wide networking and educational not-for-profit organisation promoting sustainable building practices to all disciplines of the construction industry. In 1999, Lucy started her own sustainable architecture practice, archipeleco, designing buildings that have a low impact on the environment.

IN 2005, Paul McWilliams joined archipeleco and Lucy and Paul then started a new company: develeco limited. develeco’s work is exclusively self funded refurbishments of existing buildings - usually in very poor condition - and transforming the properties into sustainable, beautiful buildings fit for 21st century living. Lucy is co-chair of WESCON (West of England Sustainable Construction network) and on the panel of the Bristol Urban Design Forum.
