Bridget Sheppard Architect
Established in 2006 Bridget Sheppard Architect occupies a particular niche in the field of architecture: that of conservation and sensitive design in new and historic contexts.
The practice seeks to achieve contemporary spaces within traditional settings.
Likewise, for new buildings, traditional materials and methods are used.
Wherever possible the practice will specify materials that have a low carbon footprint and which are sourced from local recycled or renewable sources. For example: recycled glass insulation blocks, hemp, limecrete and green or seasoned oak. Great attention is also paid to the fabric of the building even those that are listed or of special architectural interest – with the use of high levels of insulation and air tightness – to ensure low running costs.
Rainwater harvesting, solar collection, air and ground source heat and reed bed sewage treatment systems feature in many of the projects shown.
