Eight Associates is a friendly sustainability consultancy providing expertise and solutions to building professionals. We provide environmental assessment, building performance analysis, ecology consulting and sustainability strategy services. In the last year, our team worked with over 250 clients, delivering more than 400 sustainability projects.
Whether it’s a voluntary, planning or funding requirement, our experienced team of assessors are able to provide a variety of environmental assessments for a wide range of building types. We try to make the process as efficient as possible, with full support provided for design teams, including BREEAM and LEED Accredited Professional status where possible.
Our expertise in design and delivery of appraisal methodologies and standards means in the last 3 years, we have been the sustainability consultant and assessor on one RIBA and two BREEAM award-winning projects, most recently as the sustainability consultant for Grosvenor’s 119 Ebury Street, the UK’s first listed building to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating.
Challenges relating to energy use and CO2 emissions are among the toughest in the construction industry today. Our energy team are trained to provide a range of services related to site specific modelling of energy efficiency, thermal performance, daylighting calculations and feasibility studies for low/zero carbon energy sources.
Our experienced Ecologists provide a range of ecology services within the built environment to help protect and enhance the biodiversity of any site. We undertake ecological appraisals and protected species surveys (e.g. Bat Surveys) to support the planning process and demonstrate compliance with BREEAM and CSH requirements. We also offer advice on trees to developers, architects and land-managers, providing arboricultural consultancy over the lifecycle of a development, from Pre-Design Assessments to on-site supervision.
To significantly reduce costs and to improve levels of building user satisfaction, organisations are looking more at monitoring and managing their environmental performance. Eight Associates can provide a comprehensive package of services for organisations to recognise and trace behaviours, and understand the nature of their environmental impacts. This allows targets to be defined, plans of improvement to be put in place, and potential grants and funding opportunities accessed.
As a team, we are passionate and dedicated to sustainability issues.
We take significant steps to reduce our own environmental impact:
• Each year we set a carbon footprint reduction target and regularly instigate new internal sustainability practices. We’re proud of our Planet First Gold certification, awarded for our commitment to the continuous improvement of our energy use, carbon emissions, water use and waste reduction. We support the Eden Project Education programme, helping educate children on sustainability.
• ‘Better Bankside’ is a Business Improvement District and Eight Associates is a member of its Corporate Responsibility Group. We won a “Better Bankside Community Star” for our work with homeless charity St. Mungo’s Broadway, produced an “Ecology Toolkit” for the community’s use, and educated people living in semi-independent accommodation on the behavioural aspects of energy efficiency.
