As members of the Green Register and the Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders (AECB) as well as an ISO 14001 registered business, Kendall Kingscott are fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of the projects with which we are involved. Our commitment to providing sustainable solutions is further demonstrated by our use of the Green Guide to specify materials. We also invest heavily in our staff development in this area with staff qualified as Passivhaus Consultants, HQI Assessors, Energy Assessors and CFSH Assessors.
Formed in 1962 Kendall Kingscott is a multi discipline practice of Chartered Architects, Building Surveyors, CDM Advisors, Quantity Surveyors and Interior Designers which now has in excess of 130 staff working throughout the South, South East and South West of England and South Wales from offices in Bristol, Exeter, Teddington and Ringwood. We are a Private Limited Company with 4 Equity Directors and 4 Project Directors.
In addition to our core disciplines we are able to offer a number of complementary consultancy services to our clients including; Party Wall Surveying, Fire Risk Assessment, Accessibility Consultancy, CSH, SAP and Energy Assessments. We believe that the ability to appoint these services from our in house team can help clients to reduce overheads and improve project communication.
Reducing energy consumption requires a holistic approach to both design and operation and there are many factors to be taken into consideration. We believe the most effective solutions can be developed through a detailed understanding of the client’s current and future business needs and meeting these needs through good design whilst utilising the most appropriate technologies to do so.
Amongst the elements we take into consideration when developing intelligent, sustainable designs are;
Building Fabric – our philosophy with regard to reduction of energy consumption starts with building fabric. We believe that the most effective solution to meet the need for energy conservation lies in the early consideration of the following:
- Solar load
- People as a heat source
- Heating and venting technology
Kendall Kingscott use ‘Sefaira’, which helps our designers to quickly analyse and compare options by modelling the existing building and then adding and adjusting elements to the structure and fabric and the M&E inputs to obtain a solution that offers the best value for the individual client and project. The programme takes account of building position, orientation and local climate data in its calculations, resulting in accuracy of modelling of carbon outputs to within 10%.
Using ‘Sefaira’ allows us to compare and test many different combinations of design options and develop the environmental strategy – considering the building’s fabric and structure, its occupancy and internal configurations and M&E interventions before presenting the optimum solution for this building for validation and detailed development by the M&E consultant.
