Tonic Architecture was established by Tobias Feilding-Crawley and Nick Tomlinson in 2012.
Based in the heart of the creative city of Bristol, we are well-placed to undertake work throughout the country on all scales of private residential, development, public and education projects.
We have experience in sensitive contemporary design and the imaginative re-use, refurbishment and extension of historic and listed buildings.
We listen carefully to our clients to produce carefully considered, beautifully crafted, healthy buildings and believe that architecture should improve both the quality of life for its users and the environment.
Our designs draw inspiration from the way materials root a building to its location and give us a sense of continuity. We believe that we can learn from traditional building techniques and materials which are often adaptable and create long term value and resilience.
We give careful consideration to the provenance of products and materials and try to source those that create the minimum environmental impact in their manufacture, lifetime, and future re-use. We also encourage clients to consider reusing or repurposing existing materials, fixtures and fittings.
We seek to include, restore and enhance the biodiversity of the sites that we work on, and appoint Ecological consultants to ensure that any ‘resident’ wildlife is not disturbed or harmed by our proposals.
In the construction phase, we consider ways in which to maximise the efficiency of the processes involved in our projects and eliminate waste where possible.
We work closely with tried and trusted consultants, contractors and artisans who share our approach, and regularly deal with planning and conservation officers together with consultees such as Historic England.
