“They won!” - Last week’s AJ award suggests TGR on the right track

Last Wednesday The Green Register held its annual Steering Group meeting in London.

We used a room at the offices of members Pollard Thomas Edwards architects (PTE) not because it had a fantastic setting overlooking the Regents Canal but because their Head of Sustainable Design, Tom Dollard, is one of our steering group and we have a very good working relationship with them regularly holding training there.

At the meeting we reviewed 2017-18 and strategised the next twelve months with particular emphasis on new event topics, membership benefits, running costs and also the new role that Tom will be playing.

During our lunch break, Tom (below) presented his recently published book Designed to Perform - an illustrated guide to delivering energy efficient homes, to us. It aims to reconnect architects with site and end-product as well as being good for SAP assessors and the construction team. It even includes a kind of Top Trumps of building services!

Tom also modestly told us that he and some of his team were attending that night’s AJ100 awards as they were in the running for the sustainable practice of the year. The AJ100 is a ranking of the largest architectural practices in the UK and whilst size isn’t everything, big organisations doing things well in sustainability is important.

Just as most of us were arriving back in Bristol that evening, we dutifully checked our Twitter feeds to see how they had got on and were delighted to learn that PTE had won the award. It felt to us all like a firm reassurance that what TGR are providing is increasingly being valued as earlier Tom had told us how both our partnership with PTE and the training we provide were featured aspects of the successful nomination.

With Tom now actively developing TGR’s course content we expect that you will soon be benefitting from some our winning mix and hope to see you soon on one of our courses.

"Smile Please" - TGR Steering Group. L to R - Richard, Jill, Tom, Cath, Brian, Lucy, Dan, Elaine, Rob, Birgit, Thomas, Becky.
