Ross Boulton, Senior Sustainability Engineer, BuroHappold

The carbon intensity of grid electricity has plummeted in recent years thanks to a reduction in use of coal-fired power stations in conjunction with an increase in renewable energy generation. It is expected that this change is due to be reflected in updates to Building Regulations Part L and local Planning Policy. Ross will examine how this shift will influence the future energy strategies adopted for residential projects on both a small and large scale.

Nick James, Director, Futureground

Energy and Housing are two areas fundamental to our individual and community wellbeing. In our climate crisis and this era of significant change in both areas, how can we ensure that we thrive and not just survive. In his presentation Nick will reflect on 20 years of helping organisations in housing and energy sectors to address change successfully. He will focus on three key signals of change - highlighting issues, opportunities and examples.

Mike Shufflebotham, National Sales Manager at Green Building Store.

Passive house is a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building's ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling. Mike will look at how the key areas of Passivhaus are achieved and the benefits of the increased comfort, energy saving aspects and healthy internal air quality.
