Future housing needs require BOTH 'net-zero' AND affordability. But what is affordable, and how do we make the numbers add up? This session will outline and discuss in detail how 'net-zero' homes can be delivered at affordable cost

This webinar series coincides with delivery of a ground-breaking, cost-effective, 'net-zero' housing scheme in Essex – utilising flexible, accessible MMC. The scheme is due on site shortly and the delivery team will give us an insight into the challenges they have addressed, and the opportunities this project is creating. There will also be opportunities to visit the site during the construction phase.

This two-hour online session will cover:

  • Recap - the different definitions of net-zero in construction, who is using them and how these will drive briefs and specifications
  • How do WE define net-zero – what is, and is not (yet) covered in this?
  • What do we mean by affordable? For both developer/deliverer and buyer/user
  • What level of build cost is currently possible/deliverable for net-zero? Can this (and how) gradually be improved?
  • What are the main alternative approaches and their build cost for net-zero performance?
  • What practical examples of net-zero currently exist and how much do they cost?
  • What part can the supply chain (design and delivery) play in making net-zero homes more affordable

Terry McGivern, ex-Development Director at Hanson Building Products and ASW Construction Systems and Chief Executive of London Building Centre, will host the session.

He will also be joined by Paul Richards (low rise Housing Lead at the Govt sponsored Construction Innovation Hub); Lizzy Westmacott of ECD Architects ; and Cost Consultants

Paul Davenport, Director at Montare (an innovative housing developer based in East Herts), Ben Dyer of Dyer Developments, and EK Architects are working together on a ground-breaking, cost-effective net-zero housing scheme in Essex. The scheme is due on site shortly and a member of the team will give us an insight into the challenges and opportunities.

This live and interactive session will have Q&A breaks, so if you have questions on your net-zero homes project be sure to ask our panel of experts in the live Q&A.
