Pedder & Scampton Architects

Pedder and Scampton is a small Architects Practice based in London. We provide architectural services for all stages of a project from initial feasibility studies through to completion of construction works on site, for both new build and conversion/refurbishment works. We have completed many private home projects in London and throughout the UK and we also have a long track record in designing community and regeneration related projects. We have a particular concern to bring good design to those who might not often experience this, for example homeless people, and an expertise in designing for those with autism and other special needs. We listen carefully and work hard to establish close working relationships with our clients as well as the contractors and trades who actually make a building. This enables us to deliver schemes that are carefully tailored to the users’ needs, practical, hard wearing and above all enjoyable. We are well versed in squeezing the maximum benefit from tight budgets and are experienced in achieving planning consent. Our projects frequently create imaginative and enjoyable spaces from redundant or difficult sites. For all projects our preference is to provide a full service from feasibility studies through to completion of the works on site. This is the best way to ensure that the ambitions you have at the early stages are carried through to the completed building. But whatever your property or site, or service you require, we will apply our knowledge, skills and ingenuity to create sustainable, elegant, practical and enjoyable architecture. We understand that space and budget are frequently at a premium and pride ourselves on maximising the potential of both – often with solutions you may not have considered. Our size allows us to give to each project and client the individual attention of one of the Directors throughout the design process which helps us to ensure that quality and value extend from the initial concepts through to the completed project. Sustainability is a priority and is factored in at all stages of the design. From the outset we will explore alternative solutions that improve the ecological footprint of our projects. Issues to consider include site layout and orientation to optimise daylight, sunlight, natural ventilation etc and avoid overheating, the construction of a high performing, well insulated shell to minimise heat losses, use of sustainable and recycled materials, installation of appropriate technologies – renewable energy sources, efficient and sustainable heating systems, MVHR installations etc. We regularly attend CPD sessions to ensure that our knowledge is up to date and we work with sustainability specialists on larger projects. An example of this is our recent competition proposals for zero carbon and minimal concrete content housing and live work space in Cumbria. This project incorporates solar panels connected to a central battery system which serves the whole site, and rentable cars and electric bikes. The houses are grouped around shared communal gardens which include an orchard and small allotments.
