An experienced chartered building surveyor, construction project manager and environmental designer; in 1999 I was awarded an MSc in Environmental Design of Buildings at the Welsh School of Architecture.
Whilst much of my work is involved with creative refurbishment and extension of residential and community buildings, I was responsible for the conceptual design of the award-winning Brockweir and Hewelsfield village shop in 2004, and am lead designer for the exciting renovation of The Old Board School, Chepstow, which is to be converted to an arts hall and drop in facility for Chepstow Mencap. Over the course of my career I have worked in several architects’ practices before setting up my own practice in 1990.
My design mantra is reduce, re-use and recycle and strongly believe in Fabric First. My influences are Christopher Alexander and Christopher Day. I am not an architect, but have learnt to design ‘on the job’ over 40 years, so do not seek peer approval or to garner awards but to provide a range of professional services to clients who share my values and aspirations for their property. Fashion is fickle, timeless buildings are the ones that add value over time.
As a member of the AECB I am happy to work to their Gold and Silver levels of accreditation or to Passivhaus standards if required, where appropriate. Whilst my current client base is focused on Bristol, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire, I am happy to work further afield.
