Future Footprints 2021 - Timber, steel and concrete: A carbon comparison - Online

A joint event with The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and natureplus.

Join the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products, The Green Register and natureplus for a Future Footprints webinar, part of the natureplus 2021 Europe event series, which will explore the environmental impacts of three major structural construction materials – timber, concrete and steel.

ASBP first held Future Footprints seminars with a similar focus back in 2013, exploring resource efficient approaches to construction with talks from a range of material experts. The landscape has changed significantly since then, with an ever-growing focus on the whole life cycle of a product, from embodied and sequestered carbon through to their disposal or reuse at end of life.

In addition to this, there has been a notable scarcity of both raw materials and building products both in the UK, Europe and worldwide, leading to higher costs for both manufacturers and clients, and longer lead times, which is having a knock-on effect on the delivery of construction projects with many sites temporarily closing.

At this event we’ll reflect on the steps made by the major players in the construction products industry to maximise resource efficiency and reduce the environmental impacts of their products, with a particular focus on embodied and sequestered carbon. This will be followed by what is sure to be a lively debate, facilitated by an invited carbon expert, where we will discuss the significant role these industries have in meeting our net zero targets.

This event is the UK entry for the natureplus 2021 Europe event series, with a number of events hosted by natureplus representatives from across Europe.

The ASBP is a non-profit membership organisation formed in 2011 with a mission ‘to lead the transformation to a healthy low carbon built environment by championing the understanding and use of demonstrably sustainable building products’. We take a holistic approach to sustainability through our ‘Six Pillars of Sustainable Construction’ and our activities include conducting research, knowledge sharing, authoring guidance and delivering training to improve understanding and aid implementation.

The Green Register is an independent not-for-profit organisation delivering high quality, affordable training in sustainable construction to all industry disciplines. Through our membership and events, we connect professionals working in sustainable construction to one another and to those seeking their services. Within our extensive training programme, you can explore all the key aspects of sustainable construction in the company of like-minded professionals. Learn about the impact of greener building practices and discover how you can help to create a built environment that saves energy and waste, champions low-carbon materials and is healthier for people and planet.

ASBP is the UK representative for the association natureplus, based in Germany but with a distinguished reputation across Europe. The natureplus eco-label is designed to pull the market and sets exacting criteria for construction products and indoor health, requiring measured results from the lab, alongside criteria on embodied carbon.
