Using Lime in Retrofit projects - theory and practice

Lime, made from naturally occurring calcium carbonate, is used in a multitude of ways in construction and can be a low carbon alternative to cement based products. But do you know the difference between quicklime, lime putty, hydraulic lime, hydrated lime, lime mortars, renders and plasters and where to use them in buildings?

This session, run by Simon Ayres, director of Lime Green, will outline the essential principles and overview of all these products and their applications in buildings. Simon will also talk about the application of lime onto insulation products, such as wood fibre and hemp. After a tea break there will be a practical demonstration plus an opportunity for delegates to try applying some lime plaster/render over a small area.

There will be a follow up session in March on a live site with one of our Futureproof builders to see the products in situ.

Free attendance for our FutureProof FABS - please email to confirm your place. Non-FAB attendees are welcome, please book via the usual route (Register Now button).
