External Wall Insulation being installed on a Victorian terraced house in Knowle.

Following on from our sold out Site Visit in Bedminster in November, Urbane Ecoexperienced builders and External Wall Insulation (EWI) installers, has made their latest project in Knowle (see pic below) available for January's Site Visit for Builders. This site visit is part of The Green Register's training programme for Futureproof.

At this typical Victorian terraced house of stone and brick construction with a two story back addition, (see below left), 100mm Pavatex Isolair (below right) a wood fibreboard system is currently being fixed externally to the rear elevation.

External Wall Insulation is typically retrofitted to reduce heat loss and draughts and improve weatherproofing as well as enabling walls to contribute to thermal mass. When considering EWI, decisions need to be made concerning many things including U values, moisture penetration, dew points and detailing around cills and eaves. At this event you will get the chance to discuss these and consider what the merits are of using this particular breathable product with Nick Lloyd of Urbane Eco as well as see how the EWI is installed

From an installation perspective you will also gain an understanding of:

  • The importance of surface preparation
  • Installing of base rails
  • Fixing the insulation
  • Applying both the render base and top coats.

Wayne and Sid of Urbane are looking forward to seeing you!

This is what someone said after the last event that Nick and Urbane Eco (seen below at a Green Register site visit in 2018) were involved with:

"Great to see theory in practice in “three dimensions” and by the people doing it. Thanks SO much."
