I am a carpenter/general contractor who frequently works with Architects on small scale domestic and commercial refurbishment jobs. Last year I looked into green issues with my work and discovered that in fact I was already doing many things right- recycling, reusing materials, local suppliers- however there were big gaps in my knowledge which is where the green Register comes in. I have recently attended an “Eco-refurbishment” day-seminar created by The Green Register and felt that I’d like to put “pen to paper”, as it were.
The content of the day was varied, covering many aspects of this rapidly evolving field of construction. I was particularly impressed by the calibre of the speakers – each of them being “fresh from the front-line” and enthusiastically sharing their recent experiences and thoughts of this valuable work.

I really enjoyed last Friday’s Green Register ‘Becoming an Eco-refurbisher’ course. I think all of The Green Register events I have attended have been really good and useful, and this was no exception. All of the speakers gave very good presentations, and were really focussed. I attended the 2-day introductory course “Sustainable Building & Services”, at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, 1046, Bristol Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29 6LJ, on 12th – 13th May, 2009, which was a very rewarding and enjoyably informative 2 days, with a small group of fellow architects in tranquil landscaped surroundings just off the A38.
On 13th and 14th May, Phil Clark, Editor-in-chief digital communities at UBM Built Environment pulled off an impressive feat inviting everyone from the construction industry to participate in the virtual event ‘Sustainability Now’. “Just got back from The Green Register’s ‘Build Tight, Ventilate Right’ seminar at the Create Centre here in Bristol, with my head still spinning. I don’t know about other architects, but what I look for in a CPD event is an update on latest developments, a bit of technical information/explanation and – possibly the most useful aspect – a guide to sources of information and support on the subject.
